How a Vasectomy Works

A vasectomy is a form of permanent birth control that involves surgically blocking the vas deferens, which are the tubes that carry sperm from the testicles to the urethra. This prevents the release of sperm during ejaculation, making it highly effective at preventing pregnancy.

There are two types of vasectomies: incision and no-scalpel. Both procedures are performed in a doctor's office or outpatient surgery center, and local anesthesia is used to numb the scrotum. During the procedure, we will make an opening in the skin, locate the vas deferens, and divide and close off the ends of the tubes using one of several techniques, such as tying, clipping, or cauterizing.

While there is little discomfort during the procedure due to the numbing agent, some men may feel a slight tugging sensation or movement. Stitches may be required, depending on the situation. It is important to note that while a vasectomy is highly effective at preventing pregnancy, it does not protect against sexually transmitted infections.

Vasectomy Reversal

Vasectomy reversal is a surgical procedure to reconnect the vas deferens tubes that were cut during a vasectomy. It restores the ability to have children but is not always successful. The success rate of vasectomy reversal depends on how long it has been since the vasectomy was performed.

Our expertise and commitment to patient comfort make the vasectomy process as stress-free and easy as possible. Call (937) 382-1141.
